What do I need to calculate my Human Design?

Your birth date, local birth time and birth city. The city helps select the time zone. If you know the exact historical time zone or UTC offset on your birth date, you can enter it manually.

Can I create a chart without an exact birth time?

You can compare several charts within a known time window. Near gate and line boundaries, individual activations and your profile may change; sometimes the defined channels and final classification can change too.

How are time zones and daylight saving handled?

A named zone, such as Europe/Moscow, accounts for historical clock changes. The tool alerts you if a local time did not exist or occurred twice during a clock change. For a repeated time, enter the exact UTC offset.

Which lunar node is used: mean or true?

The calculation uses the true North Node, determined from the current geometry of the Moon’s orbit. The South Node is opposite it, 180 degrees away. The mean node smooths short-period fluctuations and may produce a different activation near a gate or line boundary.

Why is the design date not always exactly 88 days before birth?

The calculation uses an 88-degree solar arc, not 88 calendar days. The Sun’s apparent speed varies throughout the year, so the required moment is found through a separate calculation.

What do the chart colors mean?

Black represents Personality, red represents Design, and a purple gate marker represents both layers. Combined channel activations use red and black. Colored centers are defined; muted centers are undefined but may contain activated gates.

How does a complete channel differ from an activated gate?

A single activated gate highlights half a channel. A channel becomes defined only when both ends are active. Complete channels define the connected centers and contribute to the calculation of type, authority and definition.

Why does my result differ from another calculator?

First compare the date, local time and historical UTC offset. Then check whether the calculator uses the mean or true lunar node and which ephemeris it uses. Small differences are most noticeable near gate and line boundaries.

Is my birth data sent to a server?

Your birth date and time are processed in your browser. City search may send the city name you enter to the server. Your calculated chart and birth date are not sent for this search.

How can I save the chart and explanations?

SVG preserves the bodygraph’s vector sharpness, while PNG is convenient for messaging and images. Detailed explanations of centers, gates and channels are available on the page; the exported card contains the diagram and main parameters.

Nine centers

A defined center is read as a more consistent chart theme. An undefined center represents variability and receptiveness to circumstances. Neither state means you lack an ability.

Defined channels

A complete channel joins two activated ends and defines both centers. Its theme describes a combination to read alongside your type and authority.

Activated gates

Each gate represents a distinct chart theme. Its expression depends on the line, center, layer and whether a complete channel is present.

How a Human Design chart works

Human Design connects the moment of birth with a symbolic map of nine centers, 64 gates and 36 channels. A bodygraph provides a structure for exploring themes of decision-making, interaction, self-expression and familiar reactions. How to calculate and read your chart

Enter your birth date and local birth time. You can type digits only, such as 29061992 and 1130.
Select a city from the list. If necessary, open “Adjust time zone” and enter a historical time zone or UTC offset.
Select “Calculate design”. Start with your type, strategy, authority and the two profile lines.
Select gate numbers on the chart to see their meanings, planetary activations and connected channels.
Explore defined and undefined centers, then save the chart as SVG or PNG.

Type, strategy and authority

Type is determined by connections between centers, not by your zodiac sign or the number of active gates. The interface distinguishes Generators from Manifesting Generators; together with Manifestors, Projectors and Reflectors, there are five possible results. The explanation beside your type identifies the connections behind this classification.

Strategy describes a way of entering into interaction, while authority describes an approach to decisions within the system. For example, emotional authority is associated with a defined Solar Plexus, while sacral authority requires a defined Sacral and an undefined Solar Plexus. They are best read together: one characteristic does not replace the other.

What the two profile numbers mean

Your profile combines the lines of the Personality Sun and Design Sun. The first number relates to your conscious way of experiencing life; the second relates to themes that others may notice more easily. Each of the six lines has a name: Investigator, Hermit, Experimenter, Opportunist, Heretic or Role Model.

For example, 1/3 combines a desire to understand the foundations with learning through personal trial and error. A 1/3 profile and the activation 13.1 are different notations: the latter means gate 13, line 1. These values are labeled separately on this page.

Centers, channels and definition

The nine shapes in the bodygraph are centers. A colored center is defined: at least one complete channel connects it to another center. A muted center is undefined. It may still contain activated gates, so “undefined” does not always mean completely open. A center’s color is not a measure of its quality.

A channel consists of two gates. When both ends are active, the whole connection is colored; when only one is active, half is highlighted. Definition describes whether the colored centers form one connected group or several separate groups. The reading explains both the overall structure and the meaning of each connection.

Personality and Design: black and red layers

Black activations are calculated for the moment of birth and represent Personality. Red activations use an earlier moment when the Sun was 88 degrees of solar arc before its birth position; this is the design date. It is not a fixed number of calendar days before birth.

Gates activated in both layers have purple markers, while the corresponding channel segments combine red and black. The “Personality” and “Design” filters let you inspect each layer separately. Your final type, authority and definition still describe the complete chart.

Birth time and calculation accuracy

Local time is converted to UTC using the selected time zone. Historical daylight-saving transitions and changes to local time matter. If the clocks went back and the same time occurred twice, the tool asks for the exact UTC offset instead of arbitrarily choosing one of the two moments.

The calculation uses geocentric tropical longitudes for planets and the true lunar node. When comparing results with another service, check these settings and your birth details. Near a gate or line boundary, even a small difference in time or ephemeris data can change an activation.
